# I already have a Sterling Volunteers background check. Do I need a new one?

## What if my background check hasn't expired yet?

Thanks so much for helping us enforce our [Youth Protection Policy](https://www.destinationimagination.org/youth-protection-policy/), which requires all Team Managers clear a background check before they start working with their teams. *(Not sure which background check option is right for you? [Read here to get started.)](https://www.destinationimagination.org/challenge-program/background-checks/)*

 

If you have previously obtained a background check as a Team Manager, you might be wondering if you need to purchase one now. ***Sterling background checks are applicable for one year, so Team Managers will need a new background check for each Challenge season.*** Any background check used by a Team Manager must remain in effect through the end of May in order to be considered by Destination Imagination.

Even if your current background check has not yet expired, [utilize these instructions](https://answers.destinationimagination.org/knowledge/i-cant-view-the-challenges?hsLang=en) to start the process through the DI Resource Area. You'll see the following screens:
